Top Earning Network Marketers possess the seemingly supernatural ability to inspire and encourage people by the multitudes. They have the uncanny expertise to effectively communicate their desires and ideas, which in-turn motivates people to join their team.
However, most Top Earning Network Marketers were not born with this ability overnight. They didn’t learn these skill sets with a wave of their magic wand. No. They developed these skill sets through time, effort, energy, and personal development.
Below are my 4 simple tips to get your downline to listen to you. Once you can implement these tips into your daily marketing strategies, you will be that much closer to becoming a true Team leader, Influencer, and Top Earner.
You Have To Be Authentic
Whenever you consult with anybody on your team or potential customers, you have to be authentic. But what does that mean, “to be authentic?” Dependent on how you look at it, a person who is authentic can be described as being genuine and original. It can also mean being true and trustworthy.
My opinion is that if you want to be more authentic with your team, you have to learn to be more authentic, real and true to yourself. Find out what it is that you truly want in life and be yourself. What do you like? What do you not like? Do you want to attract leaders, builders, laid back folks, motivated folks? When you know yourself better, you will do better in business and you will start having more success in your business life by attracting others like you.
The Law of Attraction states that whatever energy we put out we will attract back to us, positive or negative.

Lead by Example
If you want your team to listen to you, you have to lead by example. There is nothing more empowering than to be in the trenches with your team working alongside them. Inspiring them to dream bigger and also take bigger, more constant action. If you want them to sponsor more, don’t just sit there and talk to them to motivate them! Instead, go out there and show them how it is done!
But what about the people who are not motivated to take action? What about the ones who always have an excuse?
Whether you like this advice or not, it will be the best advice I can give you. You just forget about them and move on. Maintain a good relationship but don’t waste any more time and mental energy to motivate them. You let them go and you focus on building your business and sponsoring better people.
In my experience I have found that most people struggle to get results because they do not focus any time on working on their mindset. If people in your downline don’t have the right mindset, that this is a business, and it takes work to grow a business, until “they” can make that shift, you have to leave them there. They have to make that personal commitment to work.
Sure, I could give you 200 free leads a day but unless you are developed personally in your mindset to work, you will not convert any of them!
Share Your Story
By sharing your story, I don’t mean sharing how you fast tracked to the top and made all this money in less than 30 days, etc.… Sure that can help you and let others know that you are able to produce results, however, that is not what people are going to remember. You have to be realistic with your team members and that does not mean creating false expectations.
Sharing your story means relating to your team members or prospects at the personal level. Your team members want to know that you were in their shoes before. Stacks of bills, credit card debt, how long you struggled, why you struggled, what solution you found, how you are going to put yourself in their shoes and make them a successful network marketer. They want to know that you got their back and will be there no matter what.
Have you ever noticed that most Top Earning Network Marketers are master story tellers? Sure, they are now 6 – 7 Figure earners, but they weren’t always that way were they? People relate to other people best through engaging stories, not stats and figures. Stats and figures look good on presentations and stuff, but it doesn’t create that trust because it doesn’t relate to where you are now. Next time you are on a webinar, at a hotel meeting, or at a convention, watch how the leaders and presenters share their stories.
But don’t lie about your story. Don’t be that guy or girl. People can call BS on someone who is claiming to have made $10,000 in 30 days when in actuality, all they did was buy into a system that reportedly can help them make $10,000 in 30 days. This goes back to you being authentic with your team. Bottom-line, people are not going to listen to you if you are lying with your story.
Network marketing professionals are always reminded that they need to choose their main marketing strategy and then be consistent with it. And this is just as true with your team members. Consistent action creates consistent results.
One of the biggest questions I get is “How do I motivate my team to take consistent action?” My response is always the same, “You can’t, but you can inspire them.”
If you want to inspire your team to take consistent action, the best way to do so is by being authentic with them, lead by example, sharing your story to include the ups and the downs, and your consistency. Be the kind of sponsor that you always wish you had. As the leader of your team, it is your job to guide, train, and support your team. It is absolutely vital that you stay connected with your team and be there for them when they ask for help. And when they ask for help, give them the solution that will work for them.
You need to be the one that is empowering your team by providing the training, tools, and resources that they need to be successful. This can be providing your team with additional materials that you have found beneficial for your personal development such as; CDs, DVDs, books, Podcasts, etc. In addition to your recommended personal development tools, you need to give your team access to your business building system.
Do you have a means to train your team? Do you have a means of getting your team into profit within their first 90 days? Can you show your team how to get Leads? Chances are if you don’t, your team members will quickly lose trust in your leadership abilities and find someone who can provide that for them.
Being a Team Leader isn’t easy. Influencing your downline isn’t easy. But, if you are authentic, lead by example, share your stories, and remain consistent with your downline, these 4 simple tips to get your downline to listen to you will put you well on your way to becoming a true leader, influencer and Top Earner!
