Have you ever wanted to FIRE your MLM upline or sponsor? You know, the person who calls you every other week to check in on you and ask how you’re doing. The one that is supposed to be showing you how to get new reps? The one that is telling you to go out there and just “share” these amazing products with everyone you meet? The one that told you to make a list of 100 people you know and call all of them. You know, all the “Old School” tactics that are still being preached by most if not all current MLM companies to include my current MLM.
I’ll admit it, I did do this for about a couple of months and yes, I did get a couple of new reps. but seriously, I was getting tired physically and mentally with this tactic. I have 2 kids, am a full-time student, have a part-time job, have a home to run, and don’t want to spend my weekends at the mall prospecting every single person that gets within 3 feet of me. And I definitely do not want to spend my free time on the phone talking with folks who ultimately end up saying no to my products and services.
Having a bad MLM upline is no excuse to not have success. Ask yourself this. Are you an independent business owner or are you just another number in someone else’s downline? If you are the latter, there is no way you can become the leader you need to be and build a serious business if you are hinging your success on anyone else besides yourself.
In my experience, most people with a bad MLM upline leave the company within the first 90 days if they are not getting the results they signed up for. However, think about this. While it’s tough to be successful with your MLM business and a bad upline, what really matters is…
- Are you with a good company?
- Is there a demand for the products and services in the market?
- Do you really understand that your success begins and ends with YOU!?
- Are you prepared to be a leader and not a follower?
If you are a TRUE leader and are prepared to do whatever it takes to get YOUR business into profit, including, learning the leadership and marketing skill sets you need, then a bad upline is just an irritating obstacle to overcome… Welcome to the club, lol 🙂
Bottomline, YOU need to stop COMPLAINING about it. So what if your upline isn’t supporting you. The success of your MLM business should never be based on someone else’s success. I can’t tell you how many people I have talked too that have this underlying assumption that the success of their business is based solely on their upline. And as someone who is learning to be a ‘leader’, that is a major conflict and hurdle to your success.
What is critical to your success is that you know where the trainings are that you need to become a success and leader. How to attend or view them and where to get your questions answered quickly. A GOOD upline will be able to tell you where the trainings are. They will help you with your ‘first steps’ to getting your business started and hopefully will have a system in place that shows you how you can get into profit within your first 30, 60, or 90 days even if people say ‘NO’ to your primary business.
Here is what you need to know. YOUR upline doesn’t matter. Either does the legitimate MLM or network marketing business you are in right now for that matter. What matters is actually pretty simple… It’s all about WHAT YOU DO! Or in the words of Marshawn Lynch (Seattle Seahawks – RB), “It’s all about that action boss.”
Duplication is stressed greatly in network marketing because AVERAGE people can FOLLOW directions. Average people and followers don’t know what to do without direction and don’t know where to start if they are not given direction.
Leaders on the other hand are not average. In fact, leaders are where they are because they do more and are constantly investing in themselves to learn more. YOU need to be the one that stands up today, not tomorrow and definitely not next week, and learn to do more, to be different from your upline, and stand out in the market… Brand yourself!
Remember this, a legitimate MLM or network marketing business is a level playing field for anyone. It doesn’t matter how long you have been with the company or if you are getting in on the ground level, anyone joining a legitimate MLM or network marketing business can still become one of the highest earners in the company.
So, go ahead and FIRE your upline. Thank them for getting you started in the business and become the Leader you always wanted. Build your own following and provide value to your team. Start educating yourself outside of your business and you will probably discover there is a lot better training out there.
