Motivating people to buy affiliate products from you is a very important skill set that is not only monetarily rewarding, but also directly fulfilling. In almost any profit-driven business today i.e. online network marketing (MLM) businesses, the best compensated people are those who deliver sales.
Luckily for brand-new network marketers, just getting started with affiliate marketing, hard sales skills – though wonderful to have – are not a requirement for affiliate marketing success.
Provided that you select a profitable online network marketing (MLM) business, establish your Ultimate Blogging WordPress site, and take the ideal steps to grow your audience, you can generate affiliate income as a relationship marketing professional.
Assuming that you can build and maintain a subscriber list of raving fans to which you can show value and knowledge.
Benefits of Building an Email List
Before we get to far ahead on ways to promote affiliate products to your email list, there are a number of very convincing reasons to actually build an email list in an online network marketing (MLM) business, the 4 major reasons I’ve listed below.
I also want you to realize that not all online network marketing (MLM) businesses lean well towards email marketing, but I must say the ones that do, have a tendency to be the ones I do best in.
- You have more opportunity of making the initial sale
- You have the possibility of making repeat sales from each subscriber
- You can shape a reputation with your subscribers
- By sending your list back to your site it benefits with SEO
Most of the above factors should be fairly obvious to you, nonetheless to briefly recap, if you don’t capture the email then you have only one chance to get the person to take the action you desire them to take on your website, and you can’t build a reputation with them as easily, unless they bookmark your website and come back later.
As far as helping with your SEO, by this I mean, search engines like Google can tell if someone comes back to your website, and by having a healthy list, you can send them back to your site regularly.
By doing this you increase your possibilities of your websites content getting shared on the social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter, and it raises the opportunities of people viewing more content on your website, which again, looks good in the eyes of Google as they’ll view your website as being high quality, authoritative, and trustworthy.

Isn’t affiliate marketing all about the hard sell?
Thankfully, the answer is a NO. Most folks – upwards of 95% of Americans – are opposed to sales, i.e. they don’t like pitching goods to others AND they don’t like being barraged with high pressure sales tactics.
However, most readers are willing to contemplate offers from people they know, like and trust. This is where you and your email list come in…
5 Big Mistakes New Affiliate Marketers Make
When I initially started in affiliate marketing, all I wanted was to just generate some extra income. Off I ran in every direction, trying every little thing, without any concept of all the mistakes I was making that could very well affect my odds at long-term success.
Via my years of experience with both affiliate marketing and teaching other affiliate marketers, I have come to the conclusion that there are 5 big mistakes brand-new affiliate marketers make.
1) Selling Rather Than Helping
People are intent to hear from other people before making a decision to buy a product or not — that’s why the reviews on Amazon.com products are so powerful. Those reviews are honest feedback from people who (typically) have nothing to gain if someone purchases that product or not.
When we communicate with our audience more like an unbiased customer rather than a high-pressure salesperson, we will find we make more sales and people will come back for advice on other products in the future.
2) Too Many!
This is another big mistake I made when starting out — joining any type of and every affiliate program I found. While I definitely do believe in creating multiple streams of income when working online, there is a point where you have too much to handle and it becomes unmanageable.
Pick your affiliate programs wisely and don’t overload yourself.
3) Not Testing
Whenever I opt to promote a ClickBank offer (for example), I put myself in the shoes of a likely customer and opt-in to test the vendors’ follow up series (autoresponder).
I learned this the hard way.
Nothing damages a reader’s trust in you more than being led to a promotion that will explode their inbox. Put yourself in the shoes of a potential customer and see what will happen if they follow your advice. Understand the complete sales process.
4) Make Money Online Products
Perhaps you have actually seen this in the past. You’re in a “learn online marketing” type forum. A person publishes a post complaining that they can’t make a penny online. However in their signature block, they have something along the lines of “I Made 10 Million Dollars with This” (well, maybe not 10 million dollars) tailed by their affiliate link.
It happens all the time. Please, don’t be that person.
If you’re brand-new and you want to promote products in the Make Money Online arena, don’t make false claims that it made you money. In fact, don’t make false claims at all!
Sure, talk about the benefits of the product/services/training – perhaps even why it so incredible to you — but don’t try to trick your email list. You will ruin your credibility.
This is the biggest failure for any type of brand-new affiliate marketer. Actually, it can cause really big problems for even seasoned affiliate marketers as well.
It is all too common to be working on one thing when all of a sudden, something “shiny” comes through your inbox or is mentioned in a forum you frequent. Then off you go chasing some new idea to make money online.
Ignore the “squirrels” that randomly appear out of nowhere. They will just sidetrack you from your project/campaign at hand. One completed and profitable campaign is worth much more than 50 almost half-finished campaigns or projects.
Additionally, the likelihood of your message becoming non-congruent to your email list increases which will ultimately have your email list unsubscribing from your list faster than you can fill it.
Promote Affiliate Products to Your Email List
First, if you haven’t identified by now that it is extremely vital for you to have an autoresponder fused into your online network marketing (MLM) business, I highly suggest and recommend that you get one and get one now.
I personally use AWeber, but there are others such as MailChimp and GetResponse that work just as good.
Even in an age of significantly innovative social media marketing and the twenty-four hour information overload, sending emails to your list still remains the most reliable (and lucrative) promo tactic in affiliate marketing.
Bear in mind, each time that you promote affiliate products to your email list, you have an opportunity to establish and preserve trust and credibility with your subscribers.
For that one reason alone, ensure that each mailing contains value added content that your subscribers will find useful. Don’t overload your email with ads or excessive amounts of links.
What’s great – specifically for beginners – is that plain text e-mails often work best. So keep them simple.
They’re easy on the eyes and share a sense of honesty and credibility to your viewers. All too often, affiliate marketers get carried away with elaborate new tactics that attract attention yet do not convert into sales.
So How Do You Promote Affiliate Products To Your Email List?
Consider a few of these tried and true tricks for your upcoming e-mail campaigns:
- Highlight the products’ benefits for your subscriber without being longwinded. You’re not writing a thesis or even a full blown sales-letter. It’s not necessary to list features.
- Be brief with your pitch and avoid unnecessary repetition.
- Identify your recommendation (Why do YOU recommend this product?). Mention your results and other buyers’ positive outcomes with the product. Get some testimonials for social proof.
- Don’t overdo the links! One affiliate link midway into the text and a second link near the end of the text is a great way to go.
- Incorporate e-mails with various promotion methods like product reviews and bonuses.
Successful affiliate marketers share several characteristics. They are consistent with their nurturing relationship marketing efforts. They are persistent when putting together a campaign, however are wise enough to know when to let it go and move on.
The best marketers use tools to determine and examine their performances, and are open to criticism and suggestions from subscribers, their peers, and mentors. So be open to the criticism and negative feedback that is inevitable and adjust your emails accordingly.
How will you know that you’ve turned into a successful affiliate marketer? The number cruncher in you may raise your hand and say, “When I make X dollars monthly, each month, for a set number of years.” Pretty tough to argue with that, since making money online is a solid motivator.
Nevertheless, why not determine success by the number of lives you touch in a positive way by introducing them to your affiliate products? Chances are that the money is sure to follow…
Seriously, one of the most valuable pieces of advice given to me by my mentor – and now passing to you – is to RESPECT and VALUE your audience at all times.
They are making you a part of their lives and they are the ones prepared to put money into your pocket.
In exchange, it is your responsibility to provide them with significant value added content that addresses their wants, needs, desires, so constantly ensure you follow up with affiliate offers that meet your audience’s WANTs, NEEDs, and DESIREs.
